A Beautiful Day in New York

Today we got up bright and early to catch the rush line for Beautiful, the new musical about Carole King.

Vivica went ahead to get a spot in line, and I went to the train station to see if my missing suitcase was at the Lost and Found. No such luck. It was definitely stolen.

So I headed over to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre to get in line. If you don’t know what rush is, it is when you go to the theatre the morning (usually for 10am) you want your tickets for. Many Broadway theatres sell any tickets they still have for that day for about $30. Depending on the day, you could end up in one of the first few rows!

Beautiful is a really popular new show, so our tickets were closer to the back of the theatre. But it’s still a small enough theatre that it wasn’t too bad of a view!

Then we collected Julia from the hotel and headed towards Fifth Avenue.  As much fun as window shopping on Fifth Avenue is, we were heading to The New York Public Library and Bryant Park this time.

I didn’t know what to expect with the library, since I had never even researched it. But it is so beautiful!

It probably has the cutest water fountain ever!

Don’t forget to look up at the artwork!

Before heading to Bryant Park we stopped for a quick lunch at Pret A Manger. Pret was really the only fast food place I would eat at while in New York because the options are healthy, organic, and prepared that day. I never left feeling sick, like I did with many other places while on this trip.

Bryant Park was beautiful! And much smaller than I imagined. It’s the perfect little getaway in the city.
I’d love to come back in the summer during the Broadway in the Park series, since unfortunately we missed it by a few weeks.

IMG_3956 IMG_3957 IMG_3959I had to rush of to a meeting, so we didn’t stay for too long.

Later we met up again at Rockefeller Center. There is an amazing mall on the bottom floor of the building (with a Ben and Jerry’s store!) Outside, the plaza has a market during the summer, and an ice rink in the winter. New York 557

Here is where the rink is during the winter:

And the Christmas tree is usually at the back there!

And right across the street from Rockefeller is Radio City!

Then I had to run to another meeting! So we didn’t meet up again until 7:30 back at the Sondheim Theatre.

Beautiful is FILLED with Carole King songs such as You’ve Got a Friend, and So Far Away. For any music lover it’s a fantastic musical to see! Chilina Kennedy had me crying during You’ve Got a Friend. And I never cry at shows.

At the stage door afterwards, the entire supporting cast came out to sign autographs! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen before.

With the attractions, two meetings, and a late night musical, I was exhausted by the end of the day! But it was amazing, and I wouldn’t change any of it!

    • It’s so beautiful! I’m surprised I never looked in to it before this trip.
And yes, I love Rockefeller in summer. It’s so pretty! But I also love seeing it in the winter with the Christmas Tree! Thanks for commenting. 🙂
